Universities of Europe Founded before 1700
Foundation places of European universities established before 1700, by century.
The seats of European university foundation from the medieval studium generale through the early-modern proliferation of confessional and princely universities. Each institution is placed by its coordinate and attributed to the century of its inception, so the northward and eastward spread of the university as an institution can be read across six centuries. Data are drawn live-then-frozen from Wikidata.
